ART CHALET

The original pine-clad building was designed in 1963 by Luigi Vietti. A big name in the history of Italian architecture and tourism, he was the inventor of “Cortina style” and a designer of villas and other famous constructions on the Costa Smeralda for Prince Karim Aga Khan.

The Hotel was recently renovated (2014) but retains the elegance of the old alpine tradition and fits harmoniously into its setting, a characteristic of Vietti’s original design.

This respect for and love of nature are stronger than ever and inform the entire approach adopted by the Hotel.

BREATH-TAKING VIEWS THAT IMMEDIATELY RELAX…

Here at Albergo Bucaneve, the views alone enable one to relax and regain interior harmony: from the panoramic terrace the eye ranges across woodland and pastures, roams the plains of the Po Valley and fixes on the peaks of Monte Rosa and Monviso. This spectacle produces an immediate sensation of wellbeing, one that our guests can then intensify at our Bucaneve Wellness Center, specializing in holistic treatments, and extend by enjoying any of the numerous activities in contact with nature available in the area.

ROOMS

Respect for and love of nature are also reflected in the Hotel’s ecological wood-fired heating system and in the materials used for the furnishing and fittings in the bedrooms: local stone and larch, fir and Arolla pine are combined to exploit their beneficial effects on our sleep and health. Designed to express warmth, wellbeing and harmony, each of the 20 rooms has its own character and is personalized by original furnishings designed by Vietti.

There are single, double and triple rooms and a number of larger family-rooms suiting the needs of bigger families.

There are also specially equipped rooms for disabled persons.

All rooms have free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, security safe and hairdryer.

THE MOUNTAINS THAT WEREN’T THERE

It was in 1963 that Ermenegildo Zegna commissioned architect Luigi Vietti to build a “guesthouse” with a bar and restaurant to replace the sawmill that was in the splendid position that the Bucaneve now occupies. The 26 km “Panoramica Zegna” road had been completed and environmental upgrading work was to be done all along it to create Oasi Zegna, the fruit of Ermenegildo Zegna’s “green” philosophy. Vietti was working in the Bielmonte area at the time and it was undoubtedly his interest in the relationship between nature and architecture, testified by the Bucaneve itself, that led to his encounter and collaboration with Zegna. The Hotel’s design and exterior pine-wood cladding blended perfectly with its mountain surrounding. The large and impressive terrace built in 1964 to afford breath-taking views across the plains below was also Vietti’s idea.
